Nov 07, 2015  However, when attempting to install the game, Steam says 'Not enough disk space' and this is certainly not true. I've got over 450 GB free space. And no, Steam hasn't gone crazy either, it can download other games larger than War Thunder without saying no space. I really need some help here.

Says no disk space available but not true!

Steam Mac Deleted Games Not Reflecting Free Space

Hello,

I’m wondering if someone can help me as I’m at my wits end now.
I was on windows vista, my husband wiped the computer and re-installed Vista. I ended up with a windows.old file. We couldn’t find out how to get rid of this so hoped that reverting back to XP it would wipe the hard drive and start again.
No this hasn’t happened. I’m now left with a 225GB hard drive that is convinced it’s only got 51MB free space on it when I estimate I’m only using a mx of 15GB.
I’ve subsequently found loads of posts on how to get rid of a windows.old file, and my disk cleanup doesn’t have the following on so this post and many like it are of no use to me.
To delete the Windows.old folder from an earlier installation of Windows, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, type disk cleanup in the Start Search text box, and then click Disk Cleanup.
2. In the Disk Cleanup Options dialog box, click Files from all users on this computer.
3. In the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
4. Click to select the Previous Windows installation(s) check box, and then click OK.

I've done diskcleans ups & defrags but to no avail.

Please can anyone shed any light as I really don’t know what to do.
Many thanks in advance

carey77 hi. I should just nuke the disk, and start again. Use this. It will delete everything on the drive.
http://www.dban.org/

This didn't work last time though am worried it's just going to grow. Think we only used the quick format last time not the full do you think this would resolve it?

I remember having a similar problem awhile ago. It was because there was a hidden partition of the hardrive i couldn't use. I vaguely remember being able to delete the partition in my BIOS on bootup and all the disk-space automatically got added onto my main C: drive. This guide should show you what partitions you have.

Click on the 'Start' menu and then on 'Run.' This brings up the Run window.

Step
2Type compmgmt.msc in the text box and click 'OK.' This will open the Windows computer management window.

Step
3Expand the 'Storage' section of the left menu tree and then click on 'Disk Management.' This section displays all the drives and partitions in your computer.

Even a full (Windows) format is not infallible, which is why I suggested DBAN. You tried it, and it didn't work ?

carey77,
as LH suggested Dban should do the job ....
ive never used it but ive seen that it comes highly recommended.

what i have used is Active@ KillDisk
heres the Active@ KillDisk User Guide (PDF)

what im getting at though is that there is a utility in there that allows you to identify and remove individual partitions.....
see section 3.4 in user guide : erasing or wiping logical drives (partitions)
i used it and it worked perfectly - just thought i'd let you know.

http://www.dban.org/ is the standard wipe
Please follow the route LH recommended.
This will ensure you have a day one install; this is the only way to go
When you have the menu from the Dban disk type 'autonuke' in the window
This WILL wipe your drive of everything.
Also, what OS are you to reinstall XP or vista and what disk(s) do you have?

Sorry think I may have confused the issue. I haven't tried using DBAN just re-formatting & installing windows again.

I've had a look as post no4 suggests and looked in the computer management area, this just says I've the C: and also references a CD that I've got in the drive.

I shall have a look at the user guide mentioned, and if not shall use DBAN. Many thanks for your prompt tips all.

Oh I take that back I've actually taken another look in the computer management area.

Next to the C: I have got 7.81GB that says it unallocated. Is there anyway of merging this with the C: or do I have to make another parition with it? Still not sure where the remaining space is but at least it's an improvement.

Advice gratefully received.

hi carey77, First do you want to keep XP or go back to Vista?
Either way I suggest you wipe your hdd so you can start fresh. You can use either
Dban http://www.dban.org/ or active @Killdisk http://www.killdisk.com/downloadfree.htm . Dban will wipe your entire hdd while Active@ will wipe either a complete hdd or any partition.
If you just did a quick format then installed XP you might not have a clean install. Don't know if you have more then one partition.
If you want an easy partition & formatting tool you can download this and burn to a Cd. Is is bootable and not windows dependant. http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html . Hope this helps

@mike: I know Dban is promoted but it wipes the entire hdd vs. Active @ which allows a choice of partitions or complete hdd. If I have data on another partition why do I want to wipe it?

g-x

THink I'm going to stick with XP for now as away for a few months and no idea where I launched the vista disk too!
I see I have to get a cd to make a bootable disk - I think this will have to wait a few days as I'm in remote Thailand so not sure where I'll get my hands on one. Will wait till in a city in a few days and do the dban.
I only had one partition before and want to keep it that way. Whilst I have now managed to merge the non allocated space it's still not reflecting the space that should be there so I see no other option.

Many thanks for your help all.
